SoCal Scullers enter first day of competition at Olympic Trials 1

All five athletes from SoCal Scullers went down the course at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, FL Thursday morning for time trials, the preliminary event at Olympic Trials 1.

 

Up first was Dominic Wilmes at 9:00 a.m. in the men's open single scull. With bow number, 16, Wilmes posted the 19th fastest time out of 21 competitors at 7:08.97

 

Next, in the women's open single scull, Stesha Carle and Kelly Pierce both represented the SoCal Scullers, placing in the top four times.

 

Coming in first, just 1.13 seconds faster than Cambridge Boat Club's Genevra Stone, Carle posted a time of 7:14.60. Three places behind, Pierce finished with a time of 7:27.82, finishing fourth out of the event's 11 entries.

Both Carle and Pierce will advance to heats tomorrow for the second day of competition.

 

Finally, at 9:30, Brandon Henderson and William Young trialed in the men's lighweight double scull event, placing fourth in a field of eight, with a time of 6:22.42. Henderson and Young also advance to heats.
